In romance languages “MAL” means bad, a fitting acronymic title for the bold aesthetic of Marisa A. Lomonaco’s first collection of jewelry.

MAL was founded in 2010, when Lomonaco made the leap from sculpture to jewelry design. After receiving her bachelor's degree in sculpture in 2005 she went on to advance her technique in metal smithing through several apprenticeships in model making, casting, metal finishing and fabrication.

MAL’s current collection of spare jewelry is hewn from found objects and textures. The inspiration derives from the iconic toughness of the leather jacket, melding reinterpreted punk details with rich textures of leather grain and exotic skins. Lomonaco uses the casting process to translate these objects into metal, creating aggressive, sculptural pieces with a hint of femininity.

Every design is constructed with an emphasis on quality and longevity. Intended for those with a passionate, uncompromising sense of individuality.

MAL is designed, cast and hand crafted with integrity in Beacon, New York.
